Cardiovascular disease is a dangerous disease with a high mortality rate. The incidence of cardiovascular disease is getting younger and younger due to unhealthy habits in daily life.
Dr. Nguyen The Huy, Cardiovascular Center, E Hospital said that currently, cardiovascular diseases are becoming younger and younger due to lifestyle, work pressure and poor health care methods. Many young patients come to the hospital for examination and suffer from serious cardiovascular diseases.
During the examination, Dr. The Huy shared that there were patients who were only 30 - 35 years old but were admitted to the hospital with a completely blocked coronary artery, also known as acute myocardial infarction, and had severe progression. After undergoing intervention procedures to clear the blockage and place stents, the patients still had to suffer severe effects such as heart failure in the future.
Explaining why cardiovascular disease is getting younger these days, Dr. The Huy said that most young patients with cardiovascular disease often face stress at work, smoke regularly, are obese, have a sedentary lifestyle... These are all factors that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in young people. In addition, there are other factors such as diabetes, frequent use of alcohol and beer that also increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
According to Dr. The Huy, cardiovascular disease is often referred to as a "silent killer" because the disease often develops silently. For example, high blood pressure often has no specific symptoms, only when measuring blood pressure will the patient see high blood pressure index. This makes the patient subjective in treating and monitoring the disease. Therefore, the patient often discovers the disease at a late stage, causing the disease to have many complications, increasing the risk of death.
Dr. The Huy also pointed out that the elderly are at risk of cardiovascular disease. They are susceptible to cardiovascular disease because blood vessels are gradually damaged over time, often with atherosclerotic plaques in the vessel walls. This causes narrowing or blockage of blood vessels. In addition, patients who are obese or have underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia or those with relatives with cardiovascular disease are also susceptible to cardiovascular disease.
According to Dr. The Huy, cardiovascular disease can be prevented by limiting risk factors. For example, if you are a smoker, you should quit smoking; limit alcohol consumption... For young patients or those who already have cardiovascular disease, it is necessary to have a reasonable diet, maintain a suitable weight, exercise regularly, and balance work and life. In addition, those who already have cardiovascular disease also need to have regular check-ups and take medication as prescribed by their doctor to maintain their health.
Dr. The Huy added that some foods have negative effects on health such as fast food, processed foods, candies or foods with high sugar content. Besides, there are some foods that are good for the heart such as green vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low-salt and low-fat foods...
Regarding cardiovascular emergencies, Dr. Huy said that the time factor plays an extremely important role when the patient has acute cardiovascular factors. Cardiovascular emergencies such as acute myocardial infarction, acute stroke... are when vital organs such as the heart and brain are suffering from anemia. At this time, the sooner emergency treatment is given, the more chance the patient has to recover.
Therefore, if a family member has acute cardiovascular problems such as severe chest pain or hemiplegia, the patient should be quickly taken to the nearest medical facility for timely first aid, diagnosis and transfer to specialized departments for timely treatment.
Early warning signs of heart problems:

- Nervousness or dizziness.
- Fainting.
- Purple or deformed toes or fingers.
- There are changes in the skin, ulcers or necrosis appear.
- Palpable abdominal masses in case of aortic aneurysm.
