On New Year's Eve, the Tet duty team of E Hospital treated many stroke cases, most of them were elderly people with underlying diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
Right at the moment of New Year's Eve, the ambulance of E Hospital (Hanoi) consecutively brought 2 patients to the emergency room. The first patient was an 80-year-old man (residing in Xuan La, Tay Ho, Hanoi) who was admitted to the hospital with slow contact, pain in the lumbar spine, buttocks and thighs, and limited mobility.
This old man fell on the hard ground and had symptoms of dizziness and headache. His family discovered him and called the emergency team from outside hospital to take him to E Hospital, about 1 hour later. The emergency doctors examined and diagnosed: Lumbar spine injury and monitored for a stroke.
Immediately after that, an 88-year-old female patient (residing in Yen Hoa, Cau Giay, Hanoi) was admitted to the hospital in a state of drowsiness, difficulty communicating, mild edema in both limbs, and weakness on the left side of the body. The patient had a history of high blood pressure and kidney failure. After the necessary imaging results, the old lady was monitored for a stroke, high blood pressure, and complications of diabetes.
Another case is a 63-year-old male patient (residing in Bac Tu Liem, Hanoi) who was diagnosed with a stroke in the second hour and was successfully treated in the emergency room. As soon as the patient was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of impaired consciousness, aphasia, high blood pressure...
Master, Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Hai, Emergency Department of E Hospital said that on the night of the transition between the old year and the new year, the on-duty team had to work hard to provide emergency care for 70 patients with many different diseases such as trauma due to domestic accidents, partial intestinal obstruction, stroke, pesticide poisoning, high blood pressure... These were all very serious cases, requiring quick treatment.
According to doctors, cold weather causes blood vessels to constrict, blood to thicken, blood clots to form easily, reducing blood flow to the heart and brain. Strokes often occur early in the morning, especially around 6-7 am.
To prevent stroke, people should maintain the habit of eating on time, not skipping meals, and not eating too much. They should balance the nutrient groups, supplement green vegetables and fresh fruits rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are beneficial to health, limit alcohol, and quit smoking.
People with underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and people who have had a stroke should follow a diet as prescribed by their doctor.
