The subjects declared that they participated in illegally transporting metal suspected to be gold from Cambodia to Vietnam, and consumed it through gold shops in Chau Doc City (An Giang Province).
On July 26, according to information from An Giang Provincial Police, the Provincial Police Department has directed professional units to urgently verify, combat, and eradicate smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border.
Previously, at around 7:00 p.m. on July 25, the provincial police force discovered and arrested a case of illegal transportation of about 19 kg of metal (suspected to be gold) from Cambodia to Vietnam through Long Binh abyss (Long Binh town, An Phu district, An Giang province).
Seized exhibits
The provincial police coordinated with the Long Binh International Border Guard Station, Khanh Binh Border Gate Customs Branch and An Phu District Police to handle the case.
Immediately afterwards, HVS (born in 1963) and NHT (born in 2001), both residing in Long Binh town, An Phu district, An Giang province, turned themselves in. The subjects confessed that they, along with a number of other subjects, participated in illegally transporting the above metals from Cambodia to Vietnam, through gold shops in Chau Doc city for consumption.
The Investigation Police Force of An Giang Provincial Police searched many locations in Chau Doc City and An Phu District, seizing many related documents and objects.
