To meet the demand for labor migration, Hanoi and neighboring provinces are linking to promote labor supply and demand connections to support units and businesses in restoring production and business.

Labor migration

The COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war have caused many businesses to reduce orders, thereby affecting the labor and employment sector. Entering 2023, when the pandemic has stabilized, this is also the time for workers to step out of their "comfort zone" to find suitable jobs and have the opportunity to develop their abilities.

After a period of time working as a cosmetics saleswoman in Hanoi with a salary of 6-7 million VND/month, Ms. Luc Thi Ha (Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi) decided to quit her job to find another job with a higher salary, bonus and guaranteed benefits.

After 2 months of searching for job information, Ms. Luc Thi Ha recently interviewed and was accepted for a sales position with a relatively stable salary, bonus and benefits. “Previously, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, I tried to work hard to have an economic source to maintain my life without paying attention to the company's policies and I suffered a lot. Currently, the position at the new company has more guaranteed benefits,” Ms. Luc Thi Ha shared.

Also looking for new job opportunities, after receiving unemployment benefits, Mr. Nguyen Van Trieu (Dong Da district, Hanoi) took the opportunity to go to the Hanoi Job Exchange to look for job opportunities related to the field of business and sales.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trieu has worked in the survey field for more than 10 years, so he often has to work far from home. Therefore, Mr. Nguyen Van Trieu is looking for a job near home with a suitable job and a stable salary.

Not only workers are looking for jobs, many businesses in provinces and cities are also looking for workers to meet job requirements. A representative of Ho Tay Water Park said that the park is open seasonally, so it needs to recruit a large number of seasonal workers to ensure work during the summer, especially when the April 30 - May 1 holiday is approaching.

From the employer's perspective, Ms. Duong Hong Anh, HR specialist of Phuc Hung Thinh Company Limited, said: "Job shifting is a normal thing in the labor market. With the tourism service industry recovering, the number of workers recruited into this field will continue to increase. This time, the company needs to recruit 80 to 100 employees for 6 newly opened facilities with positions from receptionists, waiters, kitchen staff, janitors... with an income of 7 million VND/month or more. Along with recruiting through job fairs, our unit recruits through social networks, from secondary schools and vocational schools. In addition, the unit goes to communes and wards to communicate about recruitment jobs."

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, HR specialist of Garment Corporation 10, said: “From the end of the first quarter of 2023, the work of garment workers will be more stable when there are more orders. In this recruitment period, the company is recruiting 70 employees, mainly in the garment sector, along with receptionist positions, marketing staff... with the lowest income of 7 million VND/month. Most of the garment industry's recruited employees, up to 70%, do not know the profession and the unit must train them for about 3 months to be able to master the skills."

Adaptation to new requirements

In order to support businesses in having a source of labor to restore production and business, the Hanoi Employment Service Center is collaborating with the northern provinces to strengthen the connection between supply and demand in the labor market. Mr. Vu Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Employment Service Center, said: “Hanoi is strong in the trade and service sector and is in great need of recruiting workers locally and from other provinces. Through online connections, jobs will be introduced to workers. In addition, from the source of labor to unemployment benefit procedures, the unit also regularly pushes this data to the job platform so that employers can find suitable candidates.”

According to experts and recruiters, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, digital transformation, and fluctuations in the world situation have somewhat reshaped the labor market, causing job search trends and expectations of both businesses and employees to change.

According to recent job fairs held in Hanoi, although recruiting employees for businesses and finding jobs for employees is not easy, the requirements of both sides in the recruitment and job search process are increasingly high. Specifically, businesses want to find employees with better quality and skills, while employees set conditions on salary and a stable working environment to stay long-term and have a clear career development path...

“By understanding the psychology and needs of employees, in order to attract and retain employees, many businesses have tried to improve income and build a good corporate culture. From the perspective of employees, they also improve their skills to meet the trend of integration and digital transformation,” said Mr. Vu Quang Thanh.
