On the afternoon of July 20, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Education and Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training, pointed out notable points during the time when candidates register for admission and change their university admission wishes in 2023.

Note 'pocket' when placing and adjusting wishes
The first note of Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy is that if candidates participate in early admission and are conditionally admitted to some universities, they still need to officially register their wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) system. If they do not register, they will miss the opportunity because they have not been officially admitted.
When registering on the General Admission Support System of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates will be admitted to only one and the highest choice according to their wishes and abilities. At this point, the Associate Professor, Dr. stated, for example, candidates can be admitted early to up to 10 schools, but they can only study in 1 major, 1 school. The remaining positions will be reserved for other candidates. This is how the system filters out the number of fake candidates and reserves positions for other candidates in the queue.
"These are the advantages of the General Admission Support System, and at the same time, it also creates the highest opportunity for candidates when they register accurately and completely throughout the entire System process. The system allows candidates to register, register additionally, and adjust the order of their wishes an unlimited number of times. Candidates still have the opportunity until the last time, before 5:00 p.m. on July 30, to adjust their wishes," said Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy.
The next point that the Director of the Department of Higher Education shared is that when you have finished adjusting your wishes, you need to "end the process". You use the "Complete" (summit) button so that the system can record the adjustments and changes you have just made. Otherwise, you will miss the opportunity when there is a change in decision.
Because candidates can adjust their preferences an unlimited number of times, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy advises against choosing only one preference. In fact, this risk has occurred in previous years when there were candidates who were very confident that they could be admitted, even having been admitted conditionally. However, candidates did not carefully study the preliminary selection conditions, so when they were checked, it led to unnecessary mistakes.
The Director of the Department of Higher Education also advised candidates to set a number of wishes and spread them evenly across groups of schools with different levels of competition. They should not put all their wishes into top schools. This can be considered a "strategy" to increase the efficiency and university admission rate for them.
“This year, candidates do not have to choose the admission method or combination, but must carefully study the admission plan of the university and the major they want to be admitted to. Because schools must have admission by combination and method, and candidates have the result data, then we can register. If you want to enter a school, but that unit does not consider admission based on the data you have, it is also a wrong choice,” Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy said.
Mistakes candidates must avoid
During the registration and arrangement of wishes, candidates can also make unnecessary mistakes.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy said: “The first error is technical, students forget to complete the adjustment process, leading to the system not recording. Second, sometimes candidates hear on the media and are confused that when they have been admitted to an early admission wish of a certain school, they are required to put their first wish. I would like to correct this: No school requires students to put their early admission wish as their first wish. The wish that you really love and want to be admitted to the most, regardless of the method, should be put first.”
Therefore, regarding this issue, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy emphasized: “Early admission helps increase the chances for candidates, so that they can rest assured that they have been admitted to that school and major. But they still have another chance to be admitted to their favorite major, which are the higher wishes (first wish, second wish). In case they really love the major that they have been admitted to with conditions, then candidates can put this result on their first wish, they will definitely pass that wish. Schools always communicate and recommend that if candidates want to be sure to pass, they should put their first wish, this is an encouragement for them, not a requirement.”
The next mistake pointed out by the Director of the Department of Higher Education is that some candidates place too few preferences or concentrate their preferences on a group of top schools, which will also pose a great risk.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy advises candidates not to set too many wishes. They do not need to set hundreds of wishes to be admitted, instead they should divide their wishes into schools in different positions. They need to understand their academic ability, understand the admission plans of the schools, candidates do not need to set too many wishes leading to waste and expense.
According to regulations, after knowing the 2023 high school graduation exam scores, candidates have 3 weeks to register for university admission in 2023 and adjust their admission wishes (last year this period was 30 days).
