Vietnamese architecture has become a bright address on the global architectural map.

Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi made the above comment at the 2023 Architecture EXPO Exhibition with the theme "Architecture - Creating sustainable space for the community" officially opened on September 8 in Phu Quoc city (Kien Giang).

The event was organized by the Ministry of Construction in coordination with the Vietnam Association of Architects and the People's Committee of Kien Giang province from September 8-10 to introduce achievements in National Architecture in recent times.

This is also the first time the Architecture EXPO Exhibition is held in Vietnam and is one of the events responding to the series of events celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Vietnamese construction industry.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi affirmed that Vietnamese architecture has been formed and gradually developed in accordance with the characteristics of each historical period, achieving many great and proud achievements.

Recognizing the important role of architecture, the Party and State always attach importance to and have many policies and orientations on developing Vietnamese architecture with identity, progress and international integration.

Most recently, the National Assembly passed the 2019 Law on Architecture, the highest legal document regulating the activities of Vietnamese architecture.

Vietnam has formed a system of 889 urban areas with thousands of new urban areas and infrastructure that has been renovated, upgraded, and newly built.

Tens of thousands of works and clusters of works with diverse functions and aesthetics, combining national and modern characteristics, built with advanced technology and new materials, have been creating urban areas with a civilized and modern appearance, with many quality living and working spaces. The architecture of many rural areas has demonstrated the criteria of “bright-green-clean-beautiful.”

Developing green architecture, sustainable architecture, friendly to the natural environment and people to adapt to climate change; at the same time, striving to develop smart cities to suit new trends, serve and create better living conditions for people is the goal in the coming time.

Vietnamese architects have also achieved many successes, with more and more architectural works winning national and international awards; the most recent of which are the two awards of Vietnamese architects voted by the recent Congress of the World Union of Architects (UIA)...

However, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi pointed out that Vietnamese architecture will continue to face many major challenges in the country's new development phase - the phase of sustainable development and deep integration of the country with traditional and non-traditional challenges.

Therefore, the requirement to preserve, inherit and promote traditional architectural values ​​along with building an advanced, modern Vietnamese architecture imbued with national identity needs to be carefully studied and further concretized with selective absorption, application of science and technology, use of new materials, environmental protection, and use of resources and energy economically and effectively.

New opportunities and requirements require Vietnamese architects, research and training institutions, investors and state management of architecture to pay attention, make new approaches, have appropriate and effective orientations and solutions, the Minister emphasized.

Also at the plenary session, Kien Giang Provincial Party Secretary Do Thanh Binh highly appreciated and expressed expectations for the results of this event.

Architecture EXPO 2023 will bring to Kien Giang and Phu Quoc many solutions and experiences in planning management and construction according to planning; orientation for the development of urban and rural architecture, especially eco-tourism and resort architecture on Phu Quoc Island.

The goal is for Phu Quoc to truly become a “High-quality service center, eco-tourism, sea and island tourism of national and international stature.”

The 2023 Architecture EXPO Exhibition will include 1 plenary session and a discussion with the theme "Architecture - Creating sustainable spaces for the community;" 2 thematic seminars; 1 architectural exhibition; a field trip to a typical project applying green architecture, using energy saving and environmentally friendly materials in Kien Giang...
