Author Song Minh launches book "School days of famous people"
Author Song Minh shared: "I directly produced the column School Time of Famous People for the City Education Newspaper.Ho Chi Minhover the past 15 years. This book contains a lot of joy as well as many profound memories with the characters I met and interviewed. When I first started doing the column, which is also the basic material for my book, I called many famous people such as People's Artist Tra Giang, Professor. People's Artist Hoang Nhu Mai, Professor. Dr. Tran Van Khe... to ask for interviews. They all refused because "we have nothing new to write". But when they knew that the sharing would be memories of their school days, they all happily agreed and even praised this topic as good and educational. This made me very happy and joyful".
According to the author, the artist who impressed him the most was Mac Can. When asked about his school days, the artist answered with a sentence that surprised everyone: "I have never been to school."
Author Song Minh and Mac Can
He said: "My childhood was spent on a boat following my father to circus performances. When the circus came to the villages, I would run to the school bell, stand outside the window, and watch my classmates studying. I would spell out the words, even though I didn't know what the letters looked like."
It was not until he was 10 years old that Mac Can's family circus was not doing well, and he and his father had to go ashore to make a living. At this time, Mac Can was asked by a painter to come to his house to help with his painting, and in return, this artist taught him how to read and write. At the age of 13, the male artist's family moved to Saigon. From then on, he often hung around old bookstores to "read for free".
Knowing Mac Can's situation, the bookseller asked him to help him sell so he could read books comfortably. "The story that I have never been to school sounds unbelievable but it is 100% true. During the war, my family was poor and had many siblings, my parents struggled to make a living so they did not have money to send me to school. I do not blame my parents because thanks to the difficulties of that time, I later became a strong-willed person, knowing how to rise up and overcome circumstances," Mac Can shared.
In addition to Mac Can, Minh Nhi also appeared in the book about the school days of famous people. Minh Nhi was born and raised in Dong Thap. Since his secondary school years, he showed a clear talent for Literature. "I always got high scores in every essay, and was often chosen by the teacher to read as a model for the whole class. When I was in 9th grade, I participated in the provincial Literature competition and won first prize," Minh Nhi said.
"When writing this book, I had many unforgettable memories with the characters. For example, when meeting People's Artist Tra Giang, she said something that made me extremely happy: "There are thousands of articles interviewing me. But you are the first person to ask me about my school days...". It was People's Artist Tra Giang who gave me the idea to compile it into a book. Through the stories of famous people, I believe that readers will have interesting emotions and experiences, find learning methods, ways to develop themselves and orient their future path better", author Song Minh shared about his "brainchild".
