Thanks to the creative use of smart nets, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh's family in Thanh Tan commune (Thanh Ha, Hai Duong) had a big win in this year's Tet kumquat crop.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh's family has 1 acre of kumquat with 800 trees planted in the ground and 1,500 trees planted in ceramic pots to serve the Tet market.

This year, he used smart bamboo fences to wrap around the roots of the plants planted in the ground, helping to drain water and strengthen the roots. This is a technique that Mr. Thanh learned from other gardens. For the plants grown in ceramic pots, he gathered them into one area during storm number 3. Thanks to that, his family's kumquat garden was not affected by storm number 3 like most other farmers, the plants were beautiful and uniform, and had good prices.

The price of kumquat trees on the market this year is about 100,000 VND higher than last year, but because he was able to keep his garden stable through the storm, Mr. Thanh still sells them at the same price as last year. The selling price at the garden for each tree planted in the ground is from 300,000 to 500,000 VND.

The small, pretty ceramic potted plants cost around 250,000 VND/plant. Some larger, beautifully shaped plants cost 500,000 VND or 2.5 million VND/plant.

Mr. Thanh's customers are in many provinces and cities: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Lang Son..., mainly wholesalers. At this time, traders have deposited all the gardens. In the photo: Many customers have to write their names and mark the trees they ordered, and will only arrive near Tet for transportation.

This year, Mr. Thanh's family earned about 400 million VND from kumquat trees, after deducting expenses, the profit was half. This is considered a great achievement in the context that many peach and kumquat growers were affected by storm No. 3.

Mr. Thanh's garden is in full bloom with spring colors. Many families come here to see and buy kumquat trees early.
