The article quoted Mr. Teck Kim Suan, head of research at the Singapore-based United Overseas Bank (UOB), as saying that the "bright spot" in the Southeast Asian economy this year is the tourism sector, as well as related services such as accommodation, food and beverage, retail, transportation and entertainment... Having more tourists from China after the country reopened after the COVID-19 pandemic will contribute to promoting the tourism and service industries in Southeast Asian countries.

According to the article, Vietnamese officials forecast economic growth this year will still reach 6.5%, although in general, economic growth in most Southeast Asian countries in 2023 will slow down compared to 2022. According to Mr. Teck Kim Suan, the number of Vietnamese tourists recorded in the first two months of this year is at an encouraging level, showing a bright prospect for Vietnam's tourism and service industry.

In addition, the Vietnamese Government has approved the issuance of electronic visas (e-visas) valid for 3 months, and extended the time limit for granting temporary residence certificates at border gates for unilateral visa exemptions from 15 days to 45 days. The Vietnamese Government is also preparing to relax tourist entry regulations to attract more foreign tourists. All of these factors are expected to bring a "golden opportunity" for Vietnam's tourism to develop and increase competitiveness.

In particular, the capital Hanoi is promoting cooperation with regions across the country, aiming to attract more tourists to the city. In recent years, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has implemented a plan to connect tourism with Ho Chi Minh City, the Northern mountainous region, and the Mekong Delta, focusing on developing projects to stimulate tourism via air.

Hanoi has signed a tourism development cooperation plan with the Southwest, Northwest and Red River Delta regions. Hanoi also wants to improve its image, becoming a “safe, friendly, high-quality and attractive” tourist destination in the eyes of tourists. Foreign tourists that Vietnam welcomes mainly come from China, South Korea, Japan and Southeast Asian countries.
