On the afternoon of April 21, the Disciplinary Board of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced the penalty for striker Nguyen Van Quyet for reacting to the referee in the match between Hanoi FC and Binh Dinh in round 7 of V-League 2023.
The Hanoi FC player was fined 40 million VND and banned from playing 8 matches. This is a relatively heavy "off-the-cuff punishment" for the striker born in 1991.
Van Quyet's violation happened after the match ended. Hanoi FC players rushed to react to assistant referee Nguyen Thanh because they were dissatisfied with some decisions during the match.
When the two sides exchanged words, Van Quyet's actions went beyond the limit. That made the referee decide to show a red card.
The VFF Disciplinary Board carefully reviewed the video before imposing the penalty because the incident happened quickly after the match had ended. Afterwards, Van Quyet spoke up to admit his mistake for his hot-tempered behavior and called to apologize to assistant Nguyen Thanh.
The absence of Van Quyet in the next 8 matches will certainly cause Hanoi FC a great loss. The number 10 striker is playing an extremely important role in the attack with both the task of leading the play and scoring goals.
Van Quyet is leading the group of top scorers in V-League 2023 with 6 goals and has just entered the top 6 players with the most goals in the tournament.
V-League 2023 is currently postponed to make way for SEA Games 32. Van Quyet can only return after the tournament finishes the classification stage to divide the championship and relegation groups.
