The Chung cake wrapping and Giay cake pounding contest is the first event in the series of folk cultural activities of the Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring Festival 2024.
On February 23, in the front yard of Con Son Pagoda's bell tower, the 2024 Hai Duong Province Banh Chung Wrapping and Banh Giay Pounding Competition took place.
In the morning, 60 members, folk artists from 12 teams from 12 districts, towns and cities, participated in the Chung cake wrapping competition.
The cakes are scored based on the following criteria: wrapping time; square-shaped, high-walled, sharp and straight-edged cakes; even and beautiful cakes; green when peeled, with fillings in the middle of the cake; no raw rice; chewy, delicious, attractive flavor... The cakes are boiled for 5 hours after wrapping.
Many tourists and people came to watch and cheer this competition.
In the afternoon, also at this location, a rice cake pounding competition took place with the participation of 6 teams, including: Cam Giang, Tu Ky, Nam Sach, Kinh Mon, Hai Duong City and Chi Linh City.
Teams must complete steaming sticky rice, pounding cakes and finishing 5 cakes within 50 minutes.
The scoring criteria for the rice cake pounding competition are similar to the banh chung wrapping competition, which is based on the time, appearance and quality of the cake.
On the morning of February 24, Chung cakes and Giay cakes from the winning teams will be offered to Buddha at Con Son Pagoda, Nguyen Trai Temple and Tran Nguyen Dan Temple.
The Banh Chung and Banh Giay wrapping contest is a practical activity that contributes to preserving, conserving and promoting the traditional cultural beauty of the nation, demonstrating the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", looking back to the roots and ancestors of the Vietnamese people. This is also a playground, a meaningful highlight for visitors from all over the world at the Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring Festival in 2024.
The organizing committee will summarize and award prizes to the teams with high achievements in the competition on February 24.
