The three men and one woman were detained in the Gaza Strip after the conflict between Hamas and Israel broke out on October 7 last year. They were taken to hospital for medical check-ups. The rescue operation was carried out after the Israeli army announced a military operation targeting military infrastructure in al-Nuseirat, central Gaza.

On the same day, the Gaza Health Authority announced that dozens of people were killed and injured due to military operations in the area. On Facebook, the authority added that medical forces were trying to treat the injured who were transferred to Al-Aqsa Hospital.

The US and mediators including Egypt and Qatar are currently pushing diplomatic efforts to get Hamas and Israel to agree to a ceasefire proposed by US President Joe Biden. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to travel to the Middle East from June 10 to 12 to discuss the proposed ceasefire with key Arab partners.
