Criminal detention of 4 subjects in the chain of more than 60,000 fake functional foods

On October 25, information from Thanh Hoa City Police said that they were temporarily detaining 4 subjects, including: Le Quy Don (born in 1987, residing in Dong Cuong ward, Thanh Hoa city), Hoang Thi Nga (born in 1981, residing in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi), Vu Huy Hai (born in 1989, residing in Gia Lam district, Hanoi) and Luong Trong Phuc (born in 1987, residing in Ham Rong ward, Thanh Hoa city) to investigate and clarify the act of producing and trading fake and poor quality functional foods.

Previously, the police discovered that in Thanh Hoa City, there were a number of people buying and selling, exchanging over the Internet about health protection functional foods of a branded company with a commitment to good quality and always having goods available.

Realizing that the case had signs of manufacturing and trading counterfeit and poor quality goods, on October 16, Thanh Hoa City Police launched a case investigation, searching 10 locations including factories, warehouses and packaging printing workshops in Thanh Hoa City, Tu Son City (Bac Ninh), and Gia Lam District (Hanoi).

During the search, the police seized more than 4,000 boxes of counterfeit functional foods and medicines with more than 100 product codes, more than 60,000 products and thousands of counterfeit packaging with a total estimated value of more than 10 billion VND.

According to the police, Le Quy Don is the Director of Goldwin International Pharmaceutical Company located in Tien Son Industrial Park (Bac Ninh) and holds 50% of the company's shares; Hoang Thi Nga is the person directly in charge of production at the factory and also holds 50% of the shares at Goldwin; Vu Huy Hai is the Director of Haloka Import-Export Company Limited; Luong Trong Phuc is the Director of Dai Thang Packaging Production Joint Stock Company.

At the police station, the subjects confessed that because they understood the needs of consumers looking to buy functional foods to protect their health such as weight loss, drinking milk, beauty... they set up a factory to process fake functional foods to sell on the market.

The case is under further investigation and clarification.
