"Squid Game" returns

Lee Jung Jae continues to participate in "Squid Game 2"

Korea JoongAng Daily reports "Squid Game 2" is scheduled to air on December 12. The third and final season of the show is expected to air in 2025.

In a letter to the audience, director Hwang Dong Hyuk shared that it has been nearly three years since the first part received an incredible response around the world. During that time, many unimaginable things have happened to him.

“On the first day we started filming season two, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.’ It felt almost surreal. We’re trying to make sure we give you another thrill ride,” the director shared.

In the second season, the familiar cast of Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun and Gong Yoo continue to participate. In addition, there are new cast members such as Yim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Gyu Young, Lee Jin Uk, Park Sung Hoon, Jo Yu Ri from the project group IZ*ONE and Choi Seung Hyun (also known as TOP, former member of the group Big Bang).

The first season of "Squid Game" released in 2021, revolves around a secret survival competition with 456 financially struggling players. They play a series of deadly games for a chance to win a prize of 45.6 billion won (33.4 million USD).

The series has been a huge hit globally, reaching number one in 94 countries, including the US and UK. It also recorded 1.65 billion hours of viewing in its first month. The Netflix series has received several prestigious awards, including Hwang winning Outstanding Directing at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.
