The National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue has directed the Mine Rescue Center to send experts to Bac Kan to assist in rescuing two people trapped in the collapse of an illegal gold mine.
Bac Kan Provincial Party Secretary Hoang Duy Chinh directed the rescue work of two people trapped in a cave due to a landslide.
On the morning of December 11, Mr. Ma Chi Hieu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ban Thi Commune (Cho Don District, Bac Kan Province) said that the rescue forces of the province and locality are still trying to rescue 2 people trapped in a mineral mining tunnel in Keo Nang village, which occurred on December 8.
According to Mr. Hieu, on the evening of December 9, the local authorities received information from the people that on December 8, a group of people entered a deep cave (tunnel, illegal gold mine - PV) more than 400m deep in Keo Nang village, Ban Thi commune, when the rocks and soil suddenly collapsed, trapping Mr. Hoang Viet Dung (44 years old) and Mr. Tran Van Hoan (40 years old) in the cave.
When the incident happened, people tried to rescue but failed.
Rescuers try to get equipment into the cave, trying to reach the victims.
Immediately upon receiving the information, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department (Provincial Police), Cho Don District Police and military forces... coordinated to deploy rescue work.
"The rescue work has not been successful this morning. We have not been able to contact the two trapped people, so we do not know their location or health status," Mr. Hieu informed.
Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Chief of Office of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, said that the unit has directed the mine rescue center to send experts to support Bac Kan to rescue trapped people on December 10.
"Currently, Bac Kan province is taking drastic measures to rescue the two people trapped in the gold mine and we are also closely monitoring the incident. If the province proposes or the incident exceeds the local capacity, the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue will mobilize forces and means to handle it," Major General Ty added.
