The Son Tra District Youth Union in Da Nang called on people to donate kumquat trees to plant to green public flower gardens after Tet.
The open letter from the Youth Union and Young Pioneers of Son Tra district was sent on February 1. The time to donate kumquat trees "still capable of growing" is from February 4 to 11, with reception points in six wards in the area.
According to the Son Tra District Youth Union, kumquat trees bring beauty and a warm spring atmosphere to families, but after Tet many trees are often thrown away, causing waste and affecting the environment.
After receiving kumquat trees contributed by people, agencies and units, the District Youth Union will take care of and plant them in public gardens, bringing green space to the community.
"Each donated kumquat tree is a meaningful action, contributing to preserving and developing a green - clean - beautiful environment for the district," wrote the open letter of the Son Tra District Youth Union.
Kumquat trees in Da Nang are mainly transported from Cam Ha kumquat village (Hoi An city, Quang Nam). After Tet, some households often replant these trees to get the fruit as a spice, but most of them are thrown out on the street.
