On May 31, in Hanoi, the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) held the Launching Ceremony of the 2024 ASEAN Graphic Painting Competition and Exhibition.
According to the Organizing Committee, the 4th ASEAN Graphic Arts Competition and Exhibition - Vietnam 2024 is an opportunity for Vietnamese artists and artists from ASEAN countries to exchange, discuss and introduce new achievements in graphic art creation in the region; introduce the culture, country and people of each country in a united and dynamic community. This is also a meaningful artistic activity, aiming to enhance understanding and solidarity of ASEAN and at the same time an opportunity for the Vietnamese public to enjoy selected graphic works by contemporary ASEAN artists.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Ma The Anh, Director of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibitions, said: Since 2012, 2016 and 2020, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has successfully organized the ASEAN Graphic Painting Competition and Exhibition 3 times. This is an international printed painting exhibition held every 4 years in Vietnam, aiming to attract, develop and exchange art between artists in the ASEAN region, creating a regular playground for graphic arts, promoting the development of the art community in ASEAN countries.
According to Mr. Ma The Anh, from the success of the previous ASEAN Graphic Painting Competition and Exhibition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has developed a Project to be implemented in 2024, to continue to develop and enhance the art of graphic painting, creating opportunities for domestic graphic artists to exchange and share new experiences and techniques in creation with countries in the ASEAN region. Thereby, affirming Vietnam's position in the field of culture and art in general, fine arts in particular, for the development of fine arts in the ASEAN region.
According to the rules, the participants of the 2024 ASEAN Graphic Arts Competition and Exhibition are citizens of ASEAN countries including: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The entries have creative themes about life, people, natural landscapes, peaceful countries, solidarity, cooperation, friendship and contemporary life issues of common concern and sharing among ASEAN countries.
The entries are in the following categories: Relief prints (including wood engraving, rubber engraving, cardboard engraving and other relief printing techniques); Intaglio prints (including metal engraving, mica engraving, film engraving, photosensitive intaglio, collagraph); Flat prints (including lithography, metal litho, wood litho); Transparency prints (including screen printing, stencil printing); Monoprints; Prints using other techniques (including cyanotype (blue print), digital prints); Multidimensional prints (including print installation, print book art, multi-layer prints).
The submitted works must have been created from 2020 to present. Each author can submit up to 3 works. Each work is a JPG file, accompanied by a text file with full information about the author and the work.
The submission period consists of 2 rounds. Round 1, authors send photo files of their entries to the Organizing Committee for selection of works to display at the address: aseangraphicarts2024@gmail.com. The deadline for receiving works is from now until August 5, 2024.
Round 2, authors send selected works from round 1 to the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition, 38 Cao Ba Quat, Ba Dinh, Hanoi, Vietnam, for the Organizing Committee to exhibit and award.
The organizing committee plans to award 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 5 third prizes, and 7 consolation prizes to authors with outstanding works.
