Speaking before the Finnish Parliament during his inauguration ceremony, new President Stubb emphasized that Finland is entering a new era after officially joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in April 2023. Mr. Stubb also emphasized the core values and foundations of Finland's foreign policy under his leadership.

Mr. Alexander Stubb, 55 years old, won the Finnish presidential election on February 11. Mr. Stubb was the Prime Minister of Finland during the period 2014 - 2015.

Unlike most European countries, the President of Finland holds executive power alongside the government in formulating foreign and security policy. The head of state also commands the military – a force that is particularly important given the current security environment in Europe and the changing geopolitical situation in Finland.
