The Ministry of Health has just allocated 434,000 doses of vaccines. Of these, 200,000 doses of measles vaccine and 234,000 doses of whooping cough-diphtheria-tetanus vaccine.

The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Ministry of Health has just made decisions to allocate measles vaccine and DPT vaccine (whooping cough-diphtheria-tetanus vaccine) to serve the expanded immunization program for children nationwide.

Accordingly, of the 434,000 doses of vaccine allocated this time, 200,000 doses of measles vaccine are sponsored by the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals, and 234,000 doses of pertussis-diphtheria-tetanus vaccine are sponsored by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals.

These vaccines have now been distributed to the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology/Pasteur Institutes.

Vaccination for children in the expanded immunization program

The Department of Infectious Disease Control - National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology received 238,400 doses of measles and diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus vaccines to distribute to 28 provinces and cities in the Northern region.

Pasteur Institute Nha Trang received 45,640 doses, including 20,640 doses of whooping cough-diphtheria-tetanus and 25,000 doses of measles vaccine.

Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute received 113,960 doses including 65,000 doses of measles vaccine and 48,960 doses of pertussis-diphtheria-tetanus vaccine.

The Central Highlands Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology received 36,000 doses, including 21,000 doses of whooping cough-diphtheria-tetanus vaccine and 15,000 doses of measles vaccine.

The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology recommends that the above units receive measles vaccine and solvent before November 25; receive whooping cough-diphtheria-tetanus vaccine before November 26.

For many months now, there has been a shortage of measles and diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus vaccines in many localities. These are two domestically produced vaccines. The measles vaccine is produced by the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (POLYVAC), and the DPT vaccine is produced by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC).

The manufacturers have the above two types of vaccines in stock but cannot use them due to regulations on purchasing and supply procedures.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health stated that the lack of supply of single measles and DPT vaccines is one of the reasons why the city's expanded vaccination plan did not meet its target, only at 76.6%.

Similarly, in Hanoi, vaccination sites also lack measles and DPT vaccines in the National Expanded Immunization Program.

The lack of vaccines not only affects children's ability to prevent disease when they are not fully vaccinated, but is also a concern for families in difficult circumstances who have to spend a large amount of money to vaccinate their children, instead of receiving free vaccinations.
