Ung Hoe farmers (Ninh Giang) earn 54 million VND per hectare of caltrop cultivation.

Ung Hoe Commune (Ninh Giang) is considered the larva granary of Hai Duong with a cultivated area of about 65 hectares. In recent years, the larva growing area here has been continuously expanded, bringing high economic efficiency.

Water caltrop growing area in Ung Hoe commune in harvest season

Ung Hoe Commune (Ninh Giang) currently has about 65 hectares of water caltrop growing, the largest in the province. Due to high economic efficiency and easy care, the water caltrop growing area here is continuously expanding.

Farmers growing caltrops in Ung Hoe commune said that despite the unfavorable weather this year, caltrop productivity has still increased. Currently, each sao of caltrops yields about 3 quintals, an increase of 0.5 quintals/sao compared to the same period last year.

Traders are purchasing larva in Ung Hoe commune at 13,000 VND/kg, 3,000 VND/kg higher than last year. With this selling price, people earn about 2 million VND/sao.

Water chestnuts in Ung Hoe commune are mainly consumed in northern provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Nam Dinh. In addition, many traders also bring this "strange tuber" to the southern market.

The harvest season usually lasts from August to December of the lunar calendar.

Water caltrop does not require much care, it absorbs nutrients from the mud to grow and develop.

This year's crop of young shoots has a good price and harvest, so growers in Ung Hoe are excited.

During the harvest season, the larva growing area in Ung Hoe commune creates jobs for dozens of local workers with an income of about 200,000 VND/person/day.
