Hai Lang District Police (Quang Tri) are consolidating records and clarifying the case of a group of 6 people using homemade guns to kill 6 buffaloes of 3 families in Hai Chanh Commune to steal the meat to sell.
The identities of the 6 people were identified as Tran Van Huy, Tran Thien, Nguyen Van Hoa (all born in 1990), Pham Van Thang (all born in 1997), Le Van Phuc, Nguyen Khac Tiep (all born in 1989), all residing in Hai Son commune (Hai Lang district).
At the police station, this group of people confessed that at 4:00 p.m. on January 26 (ie 27th of Tet), while herding cows at the top of the long slope canal in Hai Son commune, Le Van Phuc saw a herd of buffalo lying near a stream, so he called Tran Van Huy and said: "There is a new herd of wild buffalo here, come and find some to slaughter for Tet."
After that, Huy called to inform Tran Thien to bring guns to shoot the buffaloes. After killing 4 buffaloes, this group of people butchered and took the meat, mainly the thighs, and put them in 5 burlap bags and took them to the Cam Lo - La Son highway for Tran Van Huy to transport and sell.
Next, the group returned to butcher the remaining buffalo and discovered another dead buffalo near the fifth buffalo, so they cut up the four thighs of the buffalo and sold them. The total amount of money the subjects earned from selling the buffalo meat was 39.5 million VND.
Previously, at noon on January 28 (29th of Lunar New Year), 3 households in Hai Son commune received a report that their buffaloes had been killed on the hill. When arriving at the scene, people discovered 6 buffaloes had been killed, the thighs and back meat had been cut for meat, the rest was left at the scene. The total value of the 6 buffaloes was estimated at 120 - 150 million VND. The incident occurred in an area about 15 km away from the residential area by forest road.
