The People's Committee of Tra Don Commune (Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam) confirmed that a student had just died of unknown causes in the area. Previously, a student also died in Tra Don Commune.
On March 9, the People's Committee of Tra Don commune (Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam) confirmed that a female student had just died of unknown causes.
Mr. Le Huy Phuong, Principal of Tra Don Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, said that the case that just died on the morning of March 9 was D., a second grade student at the school at Ong Phung location.
Student D. has a younger sibling named G. - a student with a fever who was taken to the emergency room by teacher Phuong in the early morning of March 7.
According to teacher Phuong, student D. had a congenital disability. On March 7, when teachers went to his house in Tra Don commune to persuade him to take student G. to the emergency room, student D. showed no signs of fever or illness. However, at around 4am this morning, the student suddenly died, the cause of which is unknown.
"At 11am today, the family held a funeral for this student according to local customs," said teacher Le Huy Phuong.
The principal of Tra Don Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities added that recently, many students of the school have shown signs of high fever, but most of their families did not take them to the doctor but left them to treat it at home.
Teachers, medical staff, and local authorities had to work hard to visit homes to persuade families to take children with high fever to the emergency room. Last week, Mr. Phuong used his car to take 12 students to the hospital for treatment.
Previously, on March 5, at Tra Don Primary Boarding School, a student also died.
Specifically, HTKN, a second grader at Ong Binh school, had a high fever and rash. Although medical staff and teachers came to persuade him, his family did not take him to the emergency room. By the evening of March 5, N. had died after about a week of self-treatment at home.
According to Nam Tra My District Medical Center, the above case is in a remote area with difficult economic conditions. In addition, the family's awareness is limited, and they still worship when their child is sick.
Recently, Nam Tra My district has continuously recorded many cases of children with rash fever symptoms.
Mr. Mai Van Muoi, Director of Quang Nam Department of Health, said that regarding the situation of children with fever suspected to be caused by measles, since after Tet, he has continuously directed and established a team to strengthen mobilization and implement preventive measures.
Currently, Quang Nam is also providing free measles vaccinations to children under 10 years old. The provincial health sector aims to have more than 95% of children in the campaign vaccinated in mountainous districts receive one dose of measles-rubella (MR) vaccine.
