The Ministry of Home Affairs has just submitted a document to the Government on the draft Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of administrative units.
Expected to reduce 50% of provincial administrative units after rearrangement
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that after the rearrangement, it is expected that the number of provincial-level administrative units will be reduced by 50% and the number of commune-level administrative units will be reduced by 60-70% compared to present.
Reasons why the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed to stop merging districts and communes according to old criteria
The Ministry of Home Affairs has requested localities to temporarily suspend some work related to the merger of districts and communes being implemented in the 2023-2030 period to focus on implementing the policy of merging provinces, abolishing the district level, and merging communes according to the conclusion of the Politburo.

The Minister of Home Affairs emphasized that the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units, the reorganization of commune-level administrative units, and the construction of a two-level government organization model must ensure 'cautiousness, thoroughness, and quality'.

The project to merge provincial-level administrative units and abolish the district level to streamline the apparatus and improve management efficiency will be submitted to the Central Government before April 1 and approved by the National Assembly before June 30.
