Orchid growers in high-tech greenhouses in Gia Loc are busy preparing to supply goods for Tet.
In early 2023, Mr. Duong Hai Doan in Doan Thuong commune (Gia Loc) invested 10 billion VND to build a high-tech greenhouse with an area of 2,400m2, planting 70,000 small and large Phalaenopsis orchids, including white orchid varieties V3, snow white, large chili, treasure map, golden apple, small peach...Phalaenopsis varieties are imported from Gia Lam Fruit and Vegetable Experimental Research Center (Hanoi) and some imported varieties.Product design meets standards, not inferior to Phalaenopsis flowers grown in Da Lat or imported.Phalaenopsis orchids are grown in greenhouses, maintaining temperatures from 18 to 27 degrees Celsius and humidity from 50 to 80%.Mr. Duong Hai Doan, owner of the Phalaenopsis orchid production area, said that up to now, customers in the province and the provinces and cities of Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, and Hai Phong have ordered 80% of the flower products for Tet.The price of each small and large Phalaenopsis orchid pot sold under contract ranges from 110,000 to 120,000 VND; the retail price ranges from 140,000 to 160,000 VND, 15 to 20% lower than the market price.Mr. Duong Hai Doan's Phalaenopsis orchid production area in Doan Thuong commune (Gia Loc) creates jobs for 10 seasonal workers, with a salary of 7 million VND/month.Tung Lam orchid production facility of Mr. Le Cong Thuyet's family in Trinh Thanh Van village, Yet Kieu commune (Gia Loc) invested over 1 billion VND to grow and propagate native orchid species using natural seed sowing methods and modern automatic greenhouse propagation and separation methods. Mr. Thuyet said that his family's orchids were bought by traders inside and outside the province since September when the orchids sprouted, the quantity was about 500 baskets, the price ranged from 150,000 VND to 5 million VND/basket. Cattleya orchids (South American variety) are considered by orchid enthusiasts as the "queen" of orchid species. They were selected, crossbred and propagated by Mr. Thuyet and grown in his garden. They are sold on the Tet market for prices ranging from 150,000 VND - 1 million VND/basket.COMMON
