Former Director of the Market Management Department of Hai Duong province Nguyen Thanh Hai was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

After several postponements, on the morning of October 20, the Provincial People's Court conducted the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Thanh Hai for fraud and property appropriation and forgery in work.

This is a fraud case that many people are interested in. Defendant Hai is currently on bail for medical treatment.

From early morning, many relatives of the defendants came to watch. Security and order were strictly implemented.

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Hai Duong province, Nguyen Thanh Hai (born in 1962, residing in Tran Phu ward, Hai Duong city) was the former Head of the Market Management Department of Hai Duong province and Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade from May 10, 2009 to October 11, 2018; held the position of Acting Head of the Market Management Department of Hai Duong province from October 12, 2018 to July 15, 2020.

From March 15, 2015 to August 12, 2019, defendant Hai took advantage of his position to provide false information about the Hai Duong Provincial Market Management Department recruiting workers and having acquaintances who could request job transfers for teachers to appropriate a total amount of nearly 1 billion VND from 4 people in Hai Duong and Nam Dinh.

The jury sentenced Nguyen Thanh Hai to 12 years in prison for fraud and appropriation of property; 2 years in prison for forgery in work; the total sentence is 14 years in prison; and forced the defendant to return the embezzled money to the victims.
