According to Bastille Post, Ms. Choi Soon Hwa is the oldest contestant in this year's beauty pageant. The model said that since Miss Universe had no age limit, she had the intention to participate and was supported by her children.

Ms. Choi Soon Hwa used to be a nurse at a hospital. After retiring, she took a course in fashion shows and became a professional model at the age of 77. Over the years, she has walked the catwalk and taken photos for magazines and clothing brands.

The beauty pageant contestant said she always wanted to "step out of her comfort zone" and do the work she loves. Thanks to that, she feels confident and active. Choi Soon Hwa encourages other seniors to participate in social activities and pursue their dreams.

This year’s Miss Universe Korea has no age or weight restrictions. Singles, married people, and people with children can all participate. The youngest contestant was born in 2003. The finals will take place in Seoul on September 30.

Miss Universe is considered the largest annual beauty pageant on the planet, first held in 1952, founded by a fashion company in California, USA. Since 2022, the copyright to organize the contest has belonged to a company in Thailand. In recent years, Miss Universe has continuously loosened the regulations so that most women can participate. Earlier this year, Ms. Jocelyn Cubales, 69 years old, attracted attention when competing in the preliminary round of Miss Universe Philippines 2024.

Mr. Yang Sun Mook, who works in the fashion industry and works with beauty pageant companies, said that Miss Universe Korea reflects the phenomenon of an aging population. In Korea, elderly people are increasingly appearing in advertisements or television programs related to beauty and beauty pageants.

In early September, cosmetics company Sulwhasoo announced actress and MC Choi Hwa Jung, 64, as its brand ambassador, replacing the previous ambassador, Rosé (Blackpink). This is the first time the company has invited a celebrity over 60 to take on this role.
