Shanwei Zoo in Guangdong Province (China) fooled visitors by using chow chow dogs to pretend to be two pandas.
Recently, a video on social media has attracted 1.4 million views and more than 700,000 likes when sharing images of two strange-looking pandas at Shanwei Zoo in Guangdong province.
Accordingly, the animal has black ears, limbs and fur around the eyes, a white body but a long, curly tail. They even pant and bark like dogs.
After the incident, many people asked the zoo to refund their tickets because they thought they were scammed.
Zoo representatives explained that the two animals were "panda dogs". They insisted that they were not misleading visitors because they never said that the animals in the cage were real pandas.
However, under pressure from public opinion, the zoo had to admit that it had dyed the fur of two chow chows (a hunting dog breed originating in Northern China known for its thick fur) to make them look more like pandas.
This is not the first time Chinese zoos have been accused of dressing dogs up as pandas.
