On the morning of March 18, Nam Sach district (Hai Duong) solemnly held the opening ceremony of Long Dong temple festival to commemorate the 678th anniversary of the death of the two-nation champion Mac Dinh Chi.
Comrade Le Van Hieu, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Hai Duong province attended the opening ceremony.
A number of members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, leaders of the Provincial People's Council and People's Committee, leaders of a number of departments, branches, and localities, along with a large number of tourists, descendants of the Mac clan, and local people attended the opening ceremony.
This is the second year the Long Dong Temple Festival has been held at the district level. This year’s festival takes place over three days from March 18 to 20 (ie February 9 to 11 of the lunar calendar).
Reading the opening speech of Long Dong Temple Festival, Chairman of Nam Sach District People's Committee Ho Ngoc Lam honored the great contributions of the Two-nation Champion Mac Dinh Chi in history and the good values passed down to today's generation. The Chairman of Nam Sach District People's Committee said that the locality is making efforts to promote that good tradition and the Long Dong Temple Festival is an opportunity to commemorate the Two-nation Champion Mac Dinh Chi, so that the descendants of the Mac clan and people from all over the country turn to their homeland and roots...
Long Dong Temple in Long Dong village, Nam Tan commune (Nam Sach) worships the two-country top scorer Mac Dinh Chi (1272 - 1346). He was the top scorer in the Giap Thin exam (1304), a famous person of the Tran Dynasty in the 14th century. Mac Dinh Chi was famous for being an honest, upright and talented mandarin, and was sent as an envoy to the North twice. He was once praised by King Tran Minh Tong as "a noble and noble person, a golden lotus always blooming in a jade well". Every year, on the 10th day of the 2nd lunar month, the local government and people hold a ceremony to commemorate him.
Long Dong Temple relic also worships Mac Hien Tich, Mac Kien Quan and female martyr Mac Thi Buoi. In 1995, Long Dong Temple was ranked as a national historical relic. In 2019, Hai Duong Provincial People's Committee recognized Long Dong Temple relic as a provincial tourist destination.
From 6:30 am, people performed the ceremony of announcing and welcoming the Saint. In the afternoon of the same day, there will be cultural programs. In particular, this year's festival has a contest for young scholars. In the evening of the same day, people from the three communes will exchange cultural activities at the temple.
On March 19, there will be an incense offering ceremony to commemorate the 678th death anniversary of the two-nation champion Mac Dinh Chi (1936 - 2024) and organize folk games and sports competitions.
On March 20, the festival is held and the Saint is brought to the mausoleum. During the 3 days of the festival, there are also booths displaying OCOP products of Nam Sach district.
