On the afternoon of March 26 (Vietnam time), a section of the Francis Scott Key Bridge (also known as the Key Bridge) in Baltimore, Maryland (USA) collapsed after a cargo ship hit it, causing many vehicles on the bridge to fall into the river.
The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. on March 26 (US time, or 1:30 p.m. the same day Vietnam time). After the collision, the cargo ship caught fire and sank. On its website X, the Maryland Transportation Authority said: “All lanes are closed in both directions due to an incident on the I-695 Key Bridge. Traffic is being rerouted.”
According to the Mayor of Baltimore, emergency personnel are on the scene and rescue efforts are underway. The collision caused about 20 people and several vehicles to fall into the river. According to the latest information, two people have been pulled from the water, one of whom is seriously injured.
At nearly 2 miles long, the Key Bridge is the longest bridge in the Baltimore metropolitan area. It opened in March 1977. Approximately 11.5 million vehicles cross the bridge each year.
