On March 28, HK01 reported that the 80th Venice Film Festival (Venice Film Festival) announced the award of Lifetime Achievement to director Liliana Cavani and actor Tony Leung. The award was announced 5 months in advance. The prestigious film event will be held from late August to September 9.
According to HK01, Tony Leung is the first Chinese actor to be honored in the Lifetime Achievement category at the Venice Film Festival. Before the actor of In the Mood for Love, Hong Kong cinema had directors John Woo and Ann Hui receive similar awards.
On said that Tony Leung has appeared in three films that won the prestigious Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival: Urban Love by director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Cyclo by French-Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung, and Lust, Caution by director Ang Lee.
Festival President Alberto Barbera called Tony Leung "an extraordinary actor who has had an influence on popular culture and international art" after 40 years in the entertainment industry.
Sharing his feelings with Hong Kong media about his new artistic achievement, Tony Leung said he felt honored and moved. The actor wanted to dedicate this award to express his gratitude for the support of producers and colleagues who have helped him on his acting journey.
