I am proud to have a kind-hearted sister and my family also contributes a small part to helping people affected by storms and floods.
These past few days, my little sister Na has been taking out her piggy bank from time to time, shaking it and muttering something that I don't understand. She also hides the money her parents gave her for breakfast, refusing to buy bread or donuts and sharing some with me like usual. I guess she wanted to buy a pink princess dress or some toy, so she decided to skip breakfast, save money and break the piggy bank that she had raised for nearly 2 years to buy it. It's strange, I don't know what expensive toy made her want to break the piggy bank she had saved for so long to buy it like that.
Curious, after finishing my homework, I asked her. She sat quietly and said nothing. After much persuasion, she finally agreed to share. Na said:
- The other day I watched TV and saw that the storm and flood were so big that all the books and notebooks of the children in the mountainous area were swept away. Many of them had no clothes to wear. Their houses were all washed away by the flood, living in the open is so miserable. I plan to ask my parents to let me break the piggy bank and use the money to support my children. My school has launched a campaign to collect old clothes and notebooks to send to my children this weekend, but I want to give this extra money.
I was very surprised to hear Na say that. Because Na is a frugal person. Even though she is only in 4th grade, she is calculating like an old lady. Last summer, I spent the money my grandparents gave me on toys and comic books while she diligently went to the library to borrow books to read. As for toys, she only asked my parents to buy her some dolls occasionally, and she also used old toys to play with. But this time, she decided to spend all her savings to give to her friends in the flood-affected areas, which is really strange. I admire her love for people. Even though I am in 7th grade, I only know how to collect a few old books to bring to school to give to the homeroom teacher to fulfill my responsibility, I don't think like Na.
On Sunday afternoon, the whole family gathered around the dinner table, watching TV about the flood situation, I realized how lucky I was. Hearing the story of Nu village, many children were no longer able to go to school after just one flood, I felt the loss and pity of the people in the flooded area. Not only Nu village, many places still do not have electricity. Water is up to the roof, there is a lack of food, and we need support. During the last storm, my house was lucky not to be flooded, only a few of my father's ornamental plants were uprooted. Seeing the pictures and stories about the devastation of storm number 3, I understood why Na did that. This afternoon, I will also ask my parents' permission to break my piggy bank to invite Na to donate to support the flood victims.
So that night, after dinner, my brother and I decided to ask our parents for permission to slaughter a pig. At first, we were afraid that our parents would not agree because the savings of my brother and I for nearly 2 years was not small, but when we proposed, our parents immediately supported us. Not only that, my grandparents, father and uncle Long also contributed. So my whole family collected nearly 5 million VND to support the flood victims. Cai Na also worked as an active propagandist in class. She mobilized her classmates to support us.
I am proud to have a kind-hearted sister and my family also contributed a small part to helping our compatriots after storm number 3. Through Na's story, the essay topic "The healthy leaves cover the torn leaves" that my new teacher assigned will certainly not be difficult for me.
