On December 14-15, for the first time, Hai Duong simultaneously vaccinated children against diphtheria and tetanus according to the expanded immunization program.
From December 14-15, commune, ward and town health stations in Hai Duong province simultaneously organized diphtheria and tetanus vaccinations for 7-year-old children. This is the first time the province has organized vaccinations against these diseases under the expanded immunization program.
It is expected that 32,608 7-year-old children living and studying in the province will receive a booster dose of Td vaccine to prevent diphtheria and tetanus. The booster or supplementary Td vaccine is to help children increase their immune response to diphtheria and tetanus if they have not been vaccinated or have not received enough doses or have received enough doses of the vaccine before they are 2 years old. After this vaccination, health stations in the province will continue to vaccinate against tetanus and diphtheria on December 25 (along with the regular vaccination).
Previously, diphtheria cases appeared in some provinces and cities. This is a dangerous disease with a high mortality rate, especially for young children. Therefore, from July to August, the demand for diphtheria and tetanus vaccination in Hai Duong increased dramatically, leading to a shortage of vaccines. Recently, Hai Duong was provided with 22,950 doses of Td vaccine to prevent diphtheria and tetanus for vaccination.
