Director of Hai Duong Province Tropical Diseases Hospital Nguyen Van Tuong shares information about viral hepatitis

On the afternoon of November 8, Hai Duong Province Tropical Diseases Hospital coordinated with Gia Loc District Medical Center to organize training on diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis for the center's medical staff, nurses and heads of commune-level health stations in the district.

According to information from the Hai Duong Province Tropical Diseases Hospital, the unit is managing and treating viral hepatitis for about 3,000 patients. Through preliminary screening, the entire province has about 8-10% of the population infected with the hepatitis virus (equivalent to 160,000-200,000 people).

There are 5 main types of hepatitis viruses: A, B, C, D and E. These viruses cause disease in all ages, regardless of gender, and have unlimited transmission. Of these, hepatitis B and C viruses have the greatest impact on health. 60% of liver cancer patients are infected with hepatitis B virus.

Viral hepatitis progresses silently, so patients are often subjective and ignore the symptoms. People infected with the hepatitis virus only go to medical facilities for examination and treatment when they have symptoms that affect their health such as fatigue, loss of appetite, insomnia, etc. When these symptoms appear, the disease is already in a dangerous stage, progressing to cirrhosis, or even liver cancer.

At the training session, doctors from Hai Duong Province Tropical Diseases Hospital imparted knowledge in diagnosing and treating viral hepatitis such as epidemiology, natural progression, clinical manifestations, disease prevention, screening, and management of patients infected with this disease.
