Contestants are excellent students in grades 11 and 12 selected from the exam to select excellent students of high schools in the 2023-2024 school year.
According to the Department of Education and Training, in the 2023-2024 school year, the number of candidates participating in the national excellent student selection exam will be expanded compared to the previous school year.
Accordingly, the contestants are excellent students in grades 11 and 12 selected from the exam for excellent students of high schools in the 2023-2024 school year. Thus, the expanded contestants are excellent students in grades 11 from all high schools in the province instead of only taking excellent students in grades 11 from Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted as in the previous school year.
The exam to select the national excellent student team is scheduled for September 22 at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted (Hai Duong City), 1 day earlier than the previous school year.
Students still take the exam in 11 subjects, including: math, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, literature, history, geography, English, French, Russian (French and Russian are only for students of Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted). Each candidate only takes one subject. The written exam lasts 180 minutes; the foreign language exam tests listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The computer science exam tests programming to solve problems on a computer.
Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted is allowed to select 20 students/team (grade 12 no more than 15 students/team). Public high schools are allowed to select 2 students/team. Students register voluntarily.
In the 2022-2023 school year, out of 213 candidates, Hai Duong selected 102 candidates to participate in the national high school excellent student exam and won a total of 71 prizes, ranking 6th nationwide in terms of the number of prizes.
