The Investigation Police Agency of Hai Duong Province Police has just decided to prosecute Nguyen Trung Uy (born in 1970, residing in O Me village, Hung Dao commune, Tu Ky) for fraud and property appropriation.

Subject Nguyen Trung Uy

According to the investigation results, Uy and Ms. T. (in Hung Dao commune) knew each other before. At the age of 26, Uy moved to the South to work and live. About 2 years ago, during his visits to his hometown, Uy met and talked with Ms. T. After that, the two became Facebook friends and kept in touch. Uy bragged to Ms. T. that he had a wife and 3 adopted children who were police officers, soldiers and doctors studying abroad in Japan. Knowing that Ms. T. had a son, Mr. C., who was not married and was working in Japan, the subject got to know and became friends with Mr. C. through Facebook.

Around mid-2021, Uy told Mrs. T. and her children that he had a niece named Quynh Anh, a senior student at Hanoi Medical University, whose father was a police officer, whose mother was retired, whose family was well-off, and who wanted to introduce her to Mr. C. Trusted by Mrs. T. and her children, the subject created a Facebook account named "Truong Thi Quynh Anh", pretending to be the niece, and proactively texted Mrs. T. and her children. Some time later, Mr. C. and Quynh Anh agreed to become lovers via Facebook. In order to avoid being detected, while pretending to be Quynh Anh, Uy never made a video call, minimizing conversations via voice calls. When forced to answer the phone, the subject would cover his nose, pretend to have a female voice, and speak very softly so that Mr. C. would not detect it.

When his “lover’s” family trusted him, Uy repeatedly used excuses of financial difficulties such as not having enough money for tuition, being sick, being hospitalized, having a broken phone, failing an exam and having to pay for it, etc., to ask Ms. T’s family for help. He also created new characters on social networks, pretending to be Quynh Anh’s biological father and best friend, influencing Ms. T. and her children to strengthen their trust.

Without the slightest suspicion, from November 2021 to August 2022, Ms. T. and her children sent a total of more than 1.9 billion VND to the accounts provided by Uy. Immediately after receiving the money, the subject quickly appropriated it all.

The Criminal Police Department of the Provincial Police is continuing to investigate the case.
