Coach Kiatisuk may leave Hanoi Police Club, after the team fell behind in the 2023-2024 V-League championship race.
Yesterday afternoon, May 11, Hanoi Police held a technical meeting to prepare for the match against Khanh Hoa in round 18. Coach Kiatisuk was thoughtful and spoke little. The main person giving opinions was Technical Director Tran Tien Dai. The Thai coach is losing his position after two consecutive losses to Nam Dinh and Quang Nam, causing the team to fall to fourth place and 10 points behind the top of the table.
Coach Kiatisuk once asked to resign but was encouraged by Mr. Duc to continue working. Meanwhile, the team has been buzzing about the possibility of this coach returning to Hoang Anh Gia Lai so that someone from the mountain town team can go back to Hanoi to take over the job.
Coach Kiatisuk started this season as the coach of Hoang Anh Gia Lai. Playing poorly, his team was constantly in the bottom group, and it was not until round 8 that they had their first victory (winning 2-0 against Hanoi at home in Pleiku). Immediately after that, Coach Kiatisuk was unexpectedly loaned by Mr. Duc to Hanoi Police, leaving the position at Pleiku for Coach Vu Tien Thanh.
Coach Kiatisuk had a sweet "honeymoon" with Hanoi Police when he continuously defeated Ho Chi Minh City 2-0, SLNA 1-0 and Thanh Ho 3-1. But in the fourth match, the defending champion's winning streak was broken, being held to a 1-1 draw by Ha Tinh, before losing heavily to Viettel 0-3.
Entering the second leg of the season, Coach Kiatisuk and Hanoi Police won two consecutive matches against Thanh Hoa and Song Lam Nghe An with a score of 2-0 but then lost 2-3 at home to direct championship competitor Nam Dinh. In the most recent round, the defending champion continued to fall 0-2 when visiting the rookie Quang Nam. Putting CAHN in a difficult position in the race to defend the throne caused Coach Kiatisuk to be said to have "lost control of the locker room".
Hanoi Police will host the bottom team Khanh Hoa today, May 12. This is the best chance for them to break their losing streak and regain their spirit in the championship race. If they continue to fail to win, the possibility of Coach Kiatisuk leaving the team is very likely.
Kiatisuk is a Thai football legend, having won three Tiger Cups (the predecessor of the AFF Cup) and four SEA Games gold medals. In Vietnam, he and Hoang Anh Gia Lai won the V-League two years in a row in 2003 and 2004. As a coach, he helped the Thai team win the AFF Cup twice in 2014 and 2016, and the SEA Games gold medal in 2013.
In 2021, Kiatisuk returned to lead Hoang Anh Gia Lai but was unsuccessful.
