On July 27, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Huu Son - Chief of Tuy Hoa City Police (Phu Yen) said that the unit is investigating a case of fraud and property appropriation by staging a scene of exchanging fake gold for real gold.
The fake gold piece that the two scammers staged to swap
At around 11am on July 23, Ms. Ho Thi Hong T. rode her motorbike to a restaurant on Nguyen Trai Street (Ward 4, Tuy Hoa City) to buy rice. When she was returning home from Nguyen Trai, she met two men who said they had picked up a gold card printed with the symbols “100%, 20, 24k, 9999” and a stack of 500,000 VND bills, the total amount of which is unknown.
These two people said they would give Ms. T. 15 million VND, but she had to go to the road west of the Ho Son Pagoda gate (Ninh Tinh 1 Hamlet, Ward 9) to settle the matter. They gave Ms. T. a "gold card" to sell, telling her to leave behind 14 18k gold bracelets, totaling about 1.5 taels. She bought this amount of gold in December 2022 for 54 million VND.
When Ms. T. arrived at the gold shop, the staff informed her that her "gold card" was fake. She returned to the gate of Ho Son pagoda to meet the other two people, but they had disappeared with her real gold.
