Last weekend, the blockbuster "Deadpool & Wolverine" continued to hold the top spot at the North American box office, with a revenue of 15.2 million USD.
Since its release six weeks ago, the Disney/Marvel superhero comedy has been a near-constant box office leader, thanks in part to the appeal of its stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The pairing of Wolverine and Deadpool has made the film one of the most anticipated releases of the year. The unlikely duo’s contrasting personalities and iconic status in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have provided a unique promotional opportunity for the MCU. According to Exhibitor Relations, the film’s domestic total now stands at $603.8 million, making it the 16th film to surpass the $600 million mark.
Coming in second is the sci-fi-horror film "Alien: Romulus". In its third week of release, the film earned an additional $9.3 million.
"Alien: Romulus" is the 7th film in the series about space monsters. As an 18+ rated work, the content of "Alien: Romulus" is connected to many other projects and works in the alien universe (Alien) from cinema to television. This is the first film of the "Alien" brand that 20th Century Studios has produced since being acquired by Disney. Director Fede Álvarez created "Alien: Romulus" as an interquel with content inserted between the events of the two previous films in this sci-fi horror series, "Prometheus" (released in 2012) and "Alien: Covenant" (2017).
The film follows a young expedition team who, in order to steal a hibernation chamber and fuel to travel to a distant planet, land at the abandoned Renaissance station. There, they discover research originating from the Xenomorph, including hundreds of Facehuggers, as well as the consequences it leaves on the station: All the crew are dead, except for a single robot, Rook. The disaster begins when a member is invaded by Facehuggers and leaves a Chestburster in his body. A series of incidents occur because they cannot handle the ferocity and speed of the monsters in time, leading to the members of the group passing away one by one. A surprise occurs in the final act of the film, introducing a character with a horrifying appearance that will surely make the audience "shiver" when watching on the big screen...
