Not using protective gear when spraying pesticides is a dangerous practice, but many farmers in Quang Thanh commune (Kinh Mon, Hai Duong) still maintain this habit.
On the afternoon of December 5, many farmers in Quang Thanh commune went to the fields to spray pesticides on the winter onion crop. Notably, most of these people did not wear masks, gloves, or boots... The situation of people "bareheaded and barefoot" when spraying pesticides on rice and vegetables is no longer a rare occurrence in many localities in Hai Duong.
Farmers may not see the effects immediately, but according to doctors, in the long run, the toxic chemical components in pesticides will accumulate and cause farmers' health to decline rapidly, causing many different dangerous diseases, including cancer...
Farmers' Associations, Agricultural Service Cooperatives... in localities need to regularly disseminate information, open training courses, and instruct farmers on the safe use and spraying of pesticides.
