On the afternoon of December 23, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Mau, Chief of Tuyen Quang City Police (Tuyen Quang Province), said that through investigation, it was determined that the male driver (not female as initially reported) driving the car that caused the accident that killed a 17-month-old girl in Nong Tien Ward was Mr. Nguyen Khuong D. (30 years old, in Yen Son District, Tuyen Quang Province).
"After identification, Mr. D. is a police officer of the Criminal Investigation Police Team on criminal, economic and drug crimes of Yen Son District Police. Regarding the results of the alcohol test on the male driver, we are sending the sample and do not have the results yet," said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Mau.
"At the police station, Mr. D. confirmed that he did not drink alcohol and had no alcohol concentration. However, we took a blood sample for testing, but the results are not yet available," added Lieutenant Colonel Mau.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Mau, at the time of the incident, the woman sitting in the car with Mr. D. was the wife of the male driver. At the police station, she confessed that because she was too panicked and her husband was taking the victim to the emergency room, she claimed to be the driver.
"Our point of view is to follow the law, strictly handle the right person for the right crime, comprehensively, without covering up no matter who it is," the Chief of Tuyen Quang City Police affirmed.
Previously, at around 5:00 p.m. on December 21, car with license plate 22A-186.xx, driven by a man, was traveling on a road in Group 10, Nong Tien Ward, Tuyen Quang City when it suddenly encountered a motorbike driven by a man crossing the street from the opposite direction.
The car driver swerved to avoid the motorbike and crashed straight into house number 26, group 10, Nong Tien ward. At that time, there was a woman and a 17-month-old girl in the house. The car hit the baby and killed her.
The leader of Tuyen Quang City People's Committee said that the child's parents were in business, the family was infertile, and finally had a child when the tragic accident happened.
