Former Deputy Director of Hanoi Police Nguyen Anh Tuan is suspected of receiving 61.6 billion VND to "fix the case"

The Ministry of Public Security's Security Investigation Agency has just concluded the investigation into the case of "Giving bribes, brokering bribes, receiving bribes, taking advantage of positions and powers while performing official duties, and fraudulent appropriation of property" occurring at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hanoi city and other provinces and cities, and transferred the case file to the Supreme People's Procuracy (Department 1) to propose prosecuting 54 defendants before the law.

This is a case that occurred during the implementation of "rescue flights" to bring Vietnamese citizens back to the country during the Covid-19 outbreak. The Ministry of Public Security said that this is an especially serious and complicated case that occurred in the context of the epidemic. The defendants took advantage of the epidemic situation to profit for personal purposes.

In this case, many former officials have been proposed for prosecution, typically former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung, former Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police Nguyen Anh Tuan, former Vice Chairman of Hanoi City People's Committee Chu Xuan Dung...

The Investigation Conclusion shows that Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan (former Major General, former Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police) confessed to receiving a total of 2.65 million USD, equivalent to 61.6 billion VND. Of which, 2.25 million USD is the amount Mr. Tuan confessed to receiving to "run" for some defendants not to be criminally prosecuted.

In this case, Mr. Tuan was proposed to be prosecuted for the crime of "Bribery Brokerage". Specifically, the two defendants, Le Hong Son, Deputy General Director and Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang, General Director of Blue Sky Trading, Service and Tourism Company Limited in this case, were proposed to be prosecuted for the crime of "Bribery". From January 2022 to September 2022, defendant Hang visited Mr. Tuan's house many times, met and gave money to take care of Hang and Son so that they would not be criminally prosecuted.

At the investigation agency, Mr. Tuan confessed to receiving from Hang a total of 2.65 million USD, equivalent to 61.6 billion VND, including 11 payments, divided into 13 times.

Of these, 12 times Mr. Tuan received 2.25 million USD directly from Hang at Tuan's house as money to "take care" of Son and Hang so that she would not be criminally prosecuted. Tuan said he gave all of this money to Hoang Van Hung, a former officer of the Ministry of Public Security (who was proposed to be prosecuted for "fraudulent appropriation of property" in this case).
