By tricking people into selling tracking software, reading messages, and eavesdropping on phones, a former police officer in Binh Xuyen district (Vinh Phuc) and two accomplices defrauded more than 135 million VND.
On March 27, the People's Court of Hai Duong province held the first-instance trial of Do Viet Hung (born in 1989, residing in Dong Tam ward, Vinh Yen city), Le Truong Giang (born in 2000, residing in Huong Son commune, Binh Xuyen district) and Dao Thanh Binh (born in 1991, former police officer of Binh Xuyen district, residing in Khai Quang ward, Vinh Yen city, both in Vinh Phuc province) for fraud and appropriation of property.
According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Hai Duong province, from May to June 2023, at Saigonres apartment building (No. 188 Nguyen Xi, Ward 26, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City), Hung, Giang, and Binh provided false information about the three subjects owning 2 software with the function of tracking, reading messages, eavesdropping on phones and social networking applications on 2 websites "Trackinggiamsat.com" and "Dinhvitoanquoc24h.top" to make others trust and transfer money to buy these software for use.
Using the above tricks, Hung, Giang, and Binh appropriated a total of 57.4 million VND from Pham Dinh Dong (born in 1995, residing in Hung Long commune, Ninh Giang), Tran Van Truong (born in 1996, residing in Thanh Binh ward, Hai Duong city), Vuong Duc Linh (born in 1982, residing in Tan Truong commune, Cam Giang) and Dang Thi Lan (born in 1994, residing in Thanh Son commune, Thanh Ha, both in Hai Duong province).
In addition, the defendants also defrauded 17 people in other provinces and cities in the country with a total amount of 77.9 million VND. The total amount of money the defendants appropriated was 135.3 million VND.
The jury sentenced Do Viet Hung to 4 years in prison; Le Truong Giang to 3 years and 6 months in prison and Dao Thanh Binh to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
