Fed may cut interest rates by 0.25 percentage point after CPI beats forecast

Investors are increasingly expecting the US Federal Reserve to cut interest rates by 0.25 percentage points at its November meeting, after the latest US government report showed inflation last month was slightly higher than expected.

CPI in August stable, inflation increased 0.24%

Compared to the previous month, the consumer price index (CPI) in August was quite stable. Of the 11 commodity groups, 10 groups increased slightly, except for the transportation group, which decreased in price.
CPI in July increased by 0.48% due to increased electricity consumption and social insurance contributions.

Increased demand for household electricity and health insurance premiums adjusted according to the new basic salary are the main reasons for the consumer price index (CPI) in July 2024 to increase by 0.48% compared to the previous month.
