A "Matsuba-gani" snow crab was sold for 10 million yen (more than 1.6 billion VND) at the Hamasaka fishing port, Shinonsen town, Hyogo prefecture in western Japan on November 6.

NewspaperMainichi(Japan) on November 8 quoted the Tajima Fisheries Office of the Hyogo Prefectural Government, the above price broke the previous record of 3.15 million yen set in the prefecture's port town of Shibayama in 2022.
A 10 million yen snow crab was sold in the first auction of the season at the Hamasaka fishing port.
Matsuba-gani is the name given to male snow crabs caught off the coast of the Sanin region, along the southwest coast of Japan's main island of Honshu.
Matsuba-gani snow crabs that meet certain criteria, such as weighing 1.2 kg or more, are given a special label as "Hamasaka-gani kiraboshi" by the Hamasaka branch of the Japan Fisheries Cooperative.
The auction winner was Mr. Ryosuke Uemura, 47 years old, owner of the restaurant Ryouriya Uemura in Chuo Ward, Kobe city.
"No matter what, I want to have one on the first day. The crabs from Hamasaka fishing port are of high quality and I want that to be known more. I want to eat snow crab with my regular customers," the restaurant owner said proudly.
Mr. Uemura also bid 2.5 million yen (about $16,600) for a kiraboshi crab on November 7.
This is the first time a crab has been auctioned for more than 1 million yen on two consecutive days in Japan.
