Strange tree with bright red color attracts tourists

These days, hundreds of tourists come to the foot of Chua Mountain, village 10a, Loc Thanh commune, Bao Lam district, Lam Dong province, to visit and check-in with 2 bright red leaf trees.

“I was very surprised by the beauty of this tree. It was a bright red color. I really liked it so I traveled more than 300 km to see it with my own eyes,” Ms. Ha Phuong, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, excitedly said.

According to locals, they are familiar with these two red-leafed trees, but this year many tourists came to check-in and take pictures. They said these are red-leafed trees and grow naturally.

The red leaf tree shows off its enchanting beauty, dyeing the sky red at the foot of Chua Mountain.

In addition to the two trees growing in village 10a, in the Chua mountain area and on the top of Dai Binh mountain, red leaf trees also grow scatteredly. However, if comparing the beauty from the beginning, the size and the color, the two red leaf trees at the foot of Chua mountain are both outstandingly beautiful.

Every year, in spring, the tree changes its buds, producing new leaves that are red and last from January to April. After that, the leaves of this tree gradually turn yellow, orange and finally green.

According to records, this is a tree with a wide canopy, bird-tail-shaped leaves and a bright red color. In the sunlight, the bright red color of the leaves brightens up the whole sky.

Ms. Anh Thu, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, shared: “On the way to Da Lat, when I heard about the 'lonely' red leaf tree in Loc Thanh commune, my friends and I asked for directions to come and admire it. Getting here was quite difficult, but in return, the beauty of this tree did not disappoint us.”

Tourists enjoy checking in with red leaf trees

According to Thai Huy, a tourist from Dong Nai province, this was the second time he and his group of friends came to the red leaf tree to take souvenir photos. "This time, the two red leaf trees are even more beautiful than before. The trees have a natural, rare beauty and should be propagated and planted more widely so that more people can enjoy and admire them," said Huy.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Thanh, an agricultural engineer who has spent many years researching this plant, confirmed that this is a gymnocladus angustifolius. “This is a native plant that grows naturally in the mountains and hills of the southern Central Highlands, Lam Dong,” Mr. Thanh said, adding that his team is looking for ways to research and propagate this plant.

In the first days of the year, due to the increasing number of tourists coming to the red leaf tree to admire its beauty and check-in, the locals even opened a drink shop to serve tourists. Anyone who wants to take pictures must buy a bottle of water for 20,000 VND.

To get to the red leaf tree, from Highway 20, Dai Binh intersection, Bao Loc city, visitors turn onto Highway 55, to village 10a, Loc Thanh commune. From here, go about 10 km more to the foot of Chua mountain, where there are 2 red leaf trees located about 2 km apart.
