Cai Mep Port receives super container ship

The Ministry of Transport has approved the policy for Cai Mep International Container Port (CMIT) to officially receive container ships with a capacity of up to 214,121 DWT with reduced load.

Cai Mep International Container Terminal is located at Cai Mep Wharf, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Seaport. The port has a minimum berth depth of -16.5m with 600m of berth and an area of ​​48 hectares; and a capacity of over 1.1 million TEUs.

Regarding equipment, the port has 6 Super Post-Panamax size shore cranes (22+1 container rows), empty container handling equipment, heavy container handling equipment, specialized trailers, 15 frame cranes (RTG)...

After that, the Ministry of Transport allowed the port to test receiving container ships with a capacity of up to 214,121 DWT to reduce load and leave the port.

Regarding the policy for Cai Mep International Container Terminal (CMIT) to officially receive container ships with a capacity of up to 214,121 DWT, the Ministry of Transport assigned the Vietnam Maritime Administration to be responsible for guiding and supervising the investor in implementing the next steps to ensure compliance with the provisions of Decree No. 58/2017 of the Government, documents of the Ministry of Transport and relevant provisions of law.

At the same time, the Vietnam Maritime Administration approved the Plan to ensure maritime safety for container ships with a tonnage of up to 214,121 DWT to officially enter and leave CMIT port, and directed the Vung Tau Maritime Port Authority to only grant licenses for container ships with a tonnage of up to 214,121 DWT to carry less than full load (reduced load) to enter and leave the port when absolutely ensuring maritime safety, security and environmental protection.

In addition, the Vietnam Maritime Administration only allows CMIT port to receive ships with a tonnage of up to 214,121 DWT with reduced load when ensuring suitable conditions regarding existing shipping channels, natural conditions, operating conditions and other related contents to ensure safety of construction structures, maritime safety, maritime security, fire and explosion prevention and environmental pollution prevention.

On the investor side, Cai Mep International Port Limited Company is responsible for complying with and fully implementing the contents of the Department of Construction Investment Management and the direction and guidance of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, Vung Tau Maritime Port Authority, and relevant agencies and units in the process of receiving ships into the port.

The investor must also be responsible for investment efficiency and responsibility in the process of receiving ships into the port if an incident occurs; the Ministry of Transport is not required to invest in and upgrade public maritime infrastructure in the area related to this policy.
