Doctors at Viet Duc Hospital performed organ transplants in less than 24 hours, saving 8 lives.

According to Dr. Duong Duc Hung - Director of Viet Duc Hospital, this is the result of changes in the hospital's communication and advocacy policy on organ donation and transplantation. Dr. Hung said that to carry out this organ retrieval and transplantation, the operating room of Viet Duc Hospital was "like a festival" because the surgical teams were ready to perform the retrieval and transplantation when it could be done immediately, for example, two consecutive heart transplants at the hospital. 6 operating tables in the operating room were constantly lit, hundreds of doctors, specialists, and indirect workers participated in these multiple organ donation and transplantation cases. From the donated organs of patients N. and PVG, 8 people were revived. Of these, 2 patients received heart transplants (one female patient was only 8 years old), 2 patients received liver transplants, and 4 patients received kidney transplants.

According to the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation, there are currently tens of thousands of people in our country who need tissue and organ transplants to sustain their lives, but they have not been able to do so because there is not enough tissue and organ source for transplant. Since 2010, Viet Duc Hospital has performed 59 heart transplants, 88 liver transplants, 185 kidney transplants and many other tissue transplants. Tissue and organ transplants are one of the important achievements of the medical sector in treating diseases, especially for patients with chronic and serious diseases due to impaired function of tissues and organs that cannot be recovered such as: chronic kidney failure, liver, heart, bone marrow, corneal damage... Successfully performing organ transplants from brain-dead donors opens up opportunities for a new life for many patients and at the same time promotes the development of organ transplants in the Vietnamese medical sector.
