US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was the victim of a burglary while dining at a restaurant in downtown Washington, DC.
According to CNN on April 21, the incident occurred on Sunday evening (April 20) and was confirmed by US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem on Monday (April 21).
When asked about the incident at the White House Easter egg roll, Noem acknowledged the incident and said it was still unresolved.
According to a law enforcement source, the US Secret Service, the agency responsible for Noem's security, reviewed surveillance video at the Capital Burger restaurant and discovered an unidentified white man, wearing a medical mask, stole her handbag and left the restaurant.
The thief took Noem's driver's license, personal medications, apartment keys, passport, Department of Homeland Security badge, makeup bag, blank checks and about $3,000 in cash.
Law enforcement sources added that the Secret Service has opened an investigation to trace any use of financial instruments by Ms. Noem.
Noem's entire family is in Washington, including her children and grandchildren, according to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson.
Noem withdrew the money to treat her family to dinner, attend activities and buy Easter gifts.
