On International Plastic Bag Free Day (July 3), the amount of plastic bags used in Big C Hai Duong supermarket decreased by about 8% compared to normal days.

Staff at checkout counters in Big C Hai Duong supermarket promote and encourage customers to use cardboard boxes to pack their items instead of using plastic bags.

A representative of Big C Hai Duong said that this result was achieved because the supermarket regularly promoted and encouraged consumers to reduce the use of disposable plastic bags. In particular, on July 3, the supermarket's checkout staff encouraged, promoted, and mobilized consumers to use cardboard boxes to pack their take-away items, instead of using plastic bags. As a result, many customers happily complied.

Packing staff continuously pack items into cartons to ship to customers.

Over the years, to reduce plastic waste in the environment, Big C Hai Duong supermarket has implemented many solutions and good practices. In addition to using biodegradable plastic bags in sales activities, the supermarket has increased the sale of products that replace single-use plastic items such as boxes and cups made of stainless steel and glass. This supermarket also applies a policy of selling reusable bags at no profit. Food stalls in the supermarket use reusable bowls, chopsticks, and cups instead of disposable items as before.

In 2009, the Bag Free World Initiative chose July 3 every year as International Plastic Bag Free Day with the aim of raising public awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste and encouraging consumers to reduce the use of plastic bags.
