The British government is determined to implement a plan to deport illegal immigrants to Rwanda as the number of people crossing the English Channel to Britain continues to increase.
The British government announced on May 15 that foreigners without the right to reside in the UK will be deported to Rwanda in the next 7-9 weeks.
The latest announcement from the UK Home Office said that foreigners who arrived in the UK illegally from January 1, 2022 and whose asylum applications were not approved before June 29, 2023, along with those who applied for protection on human rights grounds but whose applications were rejected and could not be appealed, will be forcibly deported to Rwanda.
These people will then receive support from the UK Government to rebuild their lives for up to five years, including support with education, training, employment and accommodation.
Foreigners who are not granted asylum can voluntarily return to their home countries or go to Rwanda, the announcement said. Those who do not leave the UK voluntarily will be detained and forcibly deported.
By the end of last year, Britain had paid £240 million ($304 million) to Rwanda to take in rejected asylum seekers.
However, according to estimates by the UK National Audit Office, the amount of money that London will have to pay Kigali to receive refugees from the UK over 5 years could be up to 370 million pounds.
The British government is determined to implement a plan to deport illegal immigrants to Rwanda as the number of people crossing the English Channel to Britain continues to increase.
Since the beginning of the year, 8,278 people have crossed the sea in small boats to the UK, more than the total number of people who crossed the sea to the UK during the same period in 2022 and 2023.
